Our Story
A quiet conversation on a wooden pier, transformed into a sanctuary above the sea.

The Founders
Astrid & Tono
When Astrid and Tono met, it didn't take long for them to realise that they shared the same dream in life; to create a space where people could connect, learn from each other and be part of something meaningful in this world.
Karimunjawa seemed like the perfect place; being Tono's homeland and the most 'at home' Astrid had felt anywhere, they decided to see what they could do together. The place now known as Floating Paradise was a little spot they used to come to often, where they felt at peace and aligned with nature — it seemed like the perfect spot to share with like-minded travellers.
Over the years, their shared passion for nature, the community and family became more apparent. As well as this sleepy little guesthouse, they've also set up an educational charity on the island and built their family home, which they share with their two children.
Mission Statement
Their dream is that Floating Paradise not only offers a retreat from the business of life, but also serves as a gentle reminder of the beauty of living harmoniously with the world around us.

Community Giving
Kejora Karimunjawa
In 2021, we legally founded a charity called Kejora Karimunjawa, which improves access to quality education on the island.
Kejora has been successfully running the island's first legal bilingual, nature-based preschool for 3–6-year olds since July 2023, with many children attending on a scholarship.
We also provide English lessons for primary school children aged 7–12 and for adults working in tourism. We've recently built a library and a second classroom to expand our facilities, paving the way for the introduction of primary education.
